The River Thames Guide

Freedom to explore the waterways!

Freedom to explore the waterways!

There could be several reasons why you might find yourself steering a boat through some tranquil bit of water or a lively river somewhere - but you don't actually need a destination, do you ? You might just want to get away from it all, taste a bit of real freedom and take your pleasure where you see it.

You can borrow someone else's boat if you don't own your own and there are plenty of hire boats with basic tuition provided, if needed. There are brokers with craft available in all shapes and sizes for sale.

You can spend weeks planning a strict route if that's your thing or you might just like to be more casual and see where the water leads you. In any case, it is best to be a bit laid back because there will be so many distractions along the way that are just too important to miss.

There are numerous health advantages to being out on a boat for the day or a long week-end, so I won't attempt to name all of them -except one, relaxation! You will meet new people, maybe making firm friends while you are walking the towpath, journeying the river or chatting over the bar of the many riverside pubs and restaurants but it's not compulsory! You could stick to friends on line if you really prefer but you can't beat seeing nature for real or soaking up a sunset. This is the only way to experience the river at its unbeatable best. Well that's my opinion but see for yourself - most people get to like and then love very quickly!

Whatever it is, there are many of us that have already discovered the pure pleasure of .messing about in boats.. Perhaps you should look into it too!
