Chelsea - Travel

London Transport Web Site

Chelsea is easy to get to in some ways but not in others. There are numerous bus stops and it is very well served by road routes both in and outside London. However, there is only one tube stop in Chelsea, which, for a relatively large district, is not very impressive. There are no Rail stations in the district but there are a couple just outside. It is barely served by boats floating down the Thames.

Rail
There are no Rail stations in Chelsea at all, but Victoria and Charing Cross are suitably placed nearby.

Bus
There are eight regular bus routes.

Bus Route From/To Terminating or Midstop
11 Liverpool St. to Fulham Broadway Midstop
19 Finsbury Park to Battersea Midstop
22 Piccadilly Circus to Putney Common Midstop
49 Shepherd's Bush to Clapham Junction Midstop
137 Oxford Circus to Streatham Hill Midstop
211 Waterloo to Hammersmith Midstop

River Boats
Westminster Pier to Hampton Court 10: 15 to 14:00, every roughly 45 mins. Does not stop off but passes by Cheyne Walk and the Royal Hospital Road. Enquiries to Westminster: 0207 930 2062.

Savoy Pier, Embankment to Greenwich or Chelsea, cruise only at 20:00, four days a week. Goes to Chelsea depending on the tides. Enquiries: 0207 878 2002.

Road
From the north take the A I or AI 0 into London. From the west take the A4 into London.
From the south-west take the A308 into London. From the south take the A24, A3, or A20 into London.
From the east take either the AI 1 or AI 3 into London.
To reach Chelsea from the centre of London you just get off the A40 which encircles the heart of the city. Parking is difficult to impossible, especially in the King's Road area.

Tubes
There is only one tube stop that serves Chelsea, and it is Sloane Square, to be found on the District and Circle lines. There are neighbouring tube stations which give you relatively easy access to Chelsea - South Kensington (District, Circle, and Piccadilly lines), and Gloucester Road (also District, Circle, and Piccadilly lines).
