Richard House Trust

Building London's first hospice for children

Richard House Trust is building London's first children's hospice, specially designed to meet the unique needs of children with life limiting conditions. This home from home facility will encourage children to make the most of the precious time they have left, providing opportunities for play and recreational activities. It will also offer on going support and respite accommodation for parents and siblings.

Richard House is well under construction in Beckton, East London. The 3 million pounds already raised, has enabled the Day Centre to be completed and the shell of the main hospice building to be put in place. A further 1.5 million is required to fit out and furnish the main building and run it for its first year of operation.

The Day Centre of Richard House will open its doors to children in late November 2000. The Richard House Home Care Team started to care for children in their own homes from July, and are currently caring for 20 children in and around London. The Trust aims to open the children's bedrooms and family accommodation in Summer 2001.

Once fully open Richard House will need £ 1.5m every year to provide the care and support for these children and their families. You can help Richard House look after children with life threatening conditions by making a donation, volunteering your time, or organising a fundraising group.
