KELMSCOTT MANOR, the country home of William Morris poet, craftsman and socialist from 1871 until his death in 1896, is located 5 miles to the east of Lechlade and is now cared for by the Society of Antiquaries.

The House contains a collection of the possessions and works of Morris and his associates, including furniture, textiles, carpets and ceramics.

William Morris called Kelmscott: a heaven on earth. His delight in its discovery can still be felt by the visitor today. The manor is the most evocative of all the houses associated with William Morris. He is buried in the nearby Church of St George at Kelmscott village.

The garden with its barns, dovecot, stream, meadow and formal garden was a constant source of inspiration for Morris and the images are reflected in his textile and wall-paper designs. The Manor Shop has a wide variety of designs inspired by William Morris. It also features a Licensed Restaurant offering morning coffee, lunch & afternoon tea.
