Bourne EndBourne EndBuckinghamshireThis delightful riverside town sits on the Thames between Marlow and Cookham on the Berkshire/Buckinghamshire borders. The river here is gentle, with walks along the towpath and the Thames Path long distance walkway, which crosses the river to the southern bank. The footbridge is attached to the rail bridge that carries the Marlow Donkey railway from Marlow to Maidenhead across the River Thames at his point.
People throng the riverside path enjoying the views and exercising their dogs. Swans flock to be fed and sailing dinghies line up on the shore. There are some thoughtfully placed wooden benches on which visitors can sit in the sun and admire the tranquil views, plus a pub on the southern bank of the Thames and a nice restaurant - "O.T.T." - on the north bank. All in all, a lovely Thames town and one to linger in.
Photos of Bourne End by courtesy of John Olney, a keen local photographer The town of Bourne End also has several nice coffee stops, and on the opposite side of the river and reached by the Thames Path walkway over the footbridge is a very popular pub, frequented by walkers with their dogs. Parking is OK but it can get a bit busy on a sunny Saturday!!!
