Boulter's Lock

Boulter's Lock

River Path , SL6

Maidenhead's River Path is divided by its beautiful brick bridge, which crosses over into neighbouring Slough. On the right-hand side is Brunel's famous railwaybridge and the path that runs downstream to Windsor, and on the left-hand side is Boulter's Lock and a similarly spectacular path which connects with the Ray Mill Island.

Once you come to Boulter's Lock, you will have the chance to cross over a small bridge onto the Ray Mill Island, which is mostly taken up with restaurant now. Don't forget to look down at the Lock's rising and falling levels of water as it lets through some of the attractive boats that float down this section of the Thames. In the summer the island is very popular, and you will find hundreds of boats lining up to make their way through the Lock. The weeping willows and the lush green pastures characteristic of some of the other islands in the middle of the river make for a splendid view.
