The National Maritime Museum is situated in central Greenwich, a short walk from Greenwich Pier and Cutty Sark DLR station. Its modern themed galleries cover the story of Britain’s seafaring history and our relationship with the sea.

A nostalgic Passengers' Gallery illustrates travel on the famous ocean liners. Other displays cover voyages of exploration, costume and environmental issues. Recent additions is the restored stained glass memorial recovered from the Baltic Exchange and a new professional quality ship navigation simulator.

There is a marvellous Explorers' Gallery with artefacts in particular from the amazing journeys of discovery made by that indefatigable explorer and navigator Captain James Cook

Making Waves - you can try your hand at making your own waves and see the action of tides and whirlpools. The sea covers 70% of the World's surface and controls the whole of the World's climate, yet we know so little about it.  Discover what we can do to help the environment. Go onto the Bridge of a ship and try your hamd at navigating and manouevering the  ship into port using a state of the art simulator.

Winner of the Visit London top large attraction and customer service awards for 2005 this museum is the favourite for many Londoners. Friendly staff, free gallery talks and frequent family events provide added interest at weekends and holiday times.
