This is an amazing collection made by the architect Sir John Soane over many years. He lived in this house, which is home to such treasures as Cantonese chairs, 4th Century BC Vases, the famous series of paintings by Hogarth known as "The Rakes Progress" - the museum is worth visiting for these alone - an Egyptian sarcophagus, lots of marble statues and so on.  It is probably best to go on one of the frequent guided tours of the house - tickets for these are sold at 2.00pm every day from the library dining room.

Admission Free - donations welcomed. Tel:0207 440 4263 or visit http://www.soane.org/
Nearest Tube station:  Holborn.
