This great museum does not glorify war, but sets out to show all aspects of warfare from olden times to the present, and the effect wars have upon people like the elderly and children. It explores the effects of war on the soldiers, sailors and airmen, and also upon the civilian populations caught up in war caught up in war.

It touches on the effects of war upon young children, like the Evacuees, and hosts special exhibitions like the one about Great Escapes from prisoner of war camps. It sets out to illustrate the horrors of the Holocaust in dispassionate terms, but nevertheless you will not leave unmoved by this section.

You can enter a typical house from the 1940ies all set up for life in waritme, with blackout curtains and an Anderson shelter.   You can go down into the Trenches from WW I and see the terrible conditions under which brave men fought and died. You see the aeroplaces of war, from the bi-planes to modern day ones - hanging high in the dome spaces.

Lots of hands-on exhibits for the kids to try.

Entrance Free.
