The Geffrye Museum is one of London's most friendly and enjoyable museums. Its setting is the former almshouses of the Ironmongers' Company, and this consists of delighful 18th century buildings with attractive gardens and mature streets - a rarity in this part of the East End of London.

The Geffrye Museum explores "The Home" over the past 400 years from around AD1600 to the present. The focus is on the living rooms of the urban middle classes in London. It shows how such homes have been used and furnished over this period reflecting changes in society as well as of style, fashion and taste.
Everything is free. Don't miss the "Period Rooms Highlights tours" with the audio visual guide.
Childrens' events are a speciality, and details on special events can be obtained direct from the museum.
Great refreshments are available from the restaurant/cafe.
Nearest Tube station: Liverpool Street (Bishopsgate exit) - Central Line then a 10-15 minute walk. Buses 67, 149, 242, 243 and 294 pass the doors. Parking difficult. |
