One of the most historically fascinating sights in London is the Cabinet War Rooms, where Britain's wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill and his War Cabinet planned England's military tactics and manoeuvres during World War II. If you love history, or even if you just enjoy going back in time to a bygone era, these War Rooms are simply a delight.
Their authenticity, mystery, and the feeling that you are entering a timewarp and chancing upon early 1940s London, leave you with a very strong and memorable impression. The fact that the Cabinet War Rooms are situated underground, and have been preserved almost exactly as they were when Churchill inhabited them, gives you an idea as to how they spent their time. Its strong sense of place makes you feel totally in tune with your historical surroundings. These peculiar underground headquarters, filled as they are with a labyrinth of 21 rooms, take you through the Cabinet Rooms and offering you the chance to see how Churchill's military campaigns were devised and conducted meticulously.
You will get a chance to view Churchill's bedroom, with his ever-present cigar by his bed, the fabulous surroundings from where he delivered his stirring, heart-rending speeches which placed hope and backbones of steel in the minds of Britain's war-weary citizens. You will also see the special room in which Churchill used the direct telephone line to General Eisenhower in Washington.
The Churchill Exhibition pays fitting tribute to the man who led Great Britain from the brink of disaster in 1940 to the glorious victory of 1945. It is accompanied by Churchill memorabilia, an audio-visual presentation of Churchill's life, and his honours and medals.
Whilst you are in Whitehall spend an hour of your time checking out this amazing museum and the  Churchill Exhibition attached to it. A visit to absorb the history that was made here is a must on any tourist's list of Things to Do in London.
