Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology

University College London Malet Place LONDON WC1E 6BT
Discover the lives of Ancient Egyptians for Free!
This amazing little museum is a must-see if you are at all interested in Egyptology.
It is part of the University College London campus and is located in the UCL buildings in Malet Place, off Malet Street near Goodge Street Station.
I thought I knew a lot about Egyptology and London's museums - until I discovered this remarkable place, which is crammed full of the most amazing Egyptian finds from about 4,000 years ago.
There is even a teenager's dress, which has been most miraculously preserved and presented. It was discovered in a pile of grave clothes, turned inside-out as though the owner had simply stripped it off and dropped it on the floor - typical teenager, nothing changes over 4,000 years! It is beautifully made with little pin-tucks and ruffles around the neck and is worth a visit to this amazing little museum alone.
You get to see so much more - models of cats (who were worshipped as gods by the ancient Egyptians) that were inserted into coffins for good luck on their long journey, and stunningly beautiful jewellery in gold and precious stones, all kinds of domestic articles and pottery - the list goes on and on.
The Petrie Museum is free to visit, and it puts on a lot of events during the summer which - again - if you are interested in Egyptology - you will love.
I cannot recommend this museum too highly - it is full of showcases crammed with artefacts of all kinds, and you are even provided with torches to help you to see the contents. Enjoy!
The Petrie Museum is open Tuesday to Friday from 1.00pm to 5.00pm and on Saturday from 11.00am to 2.00pm. Admission FREE!! (Donations welcome)
