Lesnes Abbey Woods

Abbey Road, Abbey Wood

In Spring these well-known woods erupt in a beautiful display of wild daffodils and bluebells. Families can follow the nature trails or the orienteering courses through the woods. The woods contain a very old mulberry tree and are the habitat of a host of wild birds which include woodpeckers, jays, collared doves, thrushes, robins and wrens. More unusual visitors include kestrels and phesants, plus tawney owls and Canada geese. Occasionally grey herons have been sighted at The Ponds in the woods. You can also visit the historic Abbey ruins and associated Visitors' Centre. Admission free. Near Abbey Wood Station (Connex).
Buses 99, 229, 469 and B11 pass the woods.
