A very welcome relief from the hurly- burly of the Strand these gardens had the Sunday afternoon walkers in mind when they first appeared in mid Victorian England. The gardens sweep a delightful half circle of lawns and trees, but everywhere you go there is a statue reminding us of the virtue of Temperance and other Victorian values. A statue of the founder of Sunday Schools also stands in the flower beds.

You can admire some fabulous architecture from Waterloo Bridge onwards and the Embankment. You can see Somerset House, Kings College, The Middle and Inner Temple buildings and gardens, Hamilton House, Syon College Theological Library, The City of London School and Africa House (the Unilever Building). It is a lovely walk along the north bank of the Thames.
