Thomas Telford originally built a series of warehouses and docks in 1828 on the north bank of the Thames near to Tower Bridge.  St Katherine docks were the nearest to the City of London and were highly successful for over 100 years.

The whole area was badly bombed in World War II and was left derelict until 1968.

A consortium has restored the warehouses, and Telford's Italianate Customs building and provided moorings in the harbour area, plus shops, restaurants, wine bars and a pub, The Dickens.

In addition there are hotels and conference facilities in the area.

St Katherine Docks are a delightful and welcome addition to the visitor facilities in this area, which is located next to the Tower of London.
