Dorchester
Wittenham Clumps
This is the name for the set of small hills which are clearly visible from the River Thames between Clifton Hampden and Dorchester, in Oxfordshire. They are properly known as the Sinodun Hills - the name comes from Celtic and means "Old Fort". The area is a popular beauty spot and there is a car park and paths for access by foot. It is designated as a Nature Reserve and is administered by the Northmoor Trust. They put on special events like lambing weekends. Photo by Northmoor Trust and reproduced by permission |
