The Cutty Sark has sadly been a victim of mindless vandalism. An explosion took place early on the morning of Monday 21 May  2007 and a big fire which ensued has done massive damage to the ship - which was already the subject of a major and expensive restoration.  Chris Livett of Livett Launches and a member of the restoration team says that he is hopeful that the famous old ship can be fully restored, but that it will cost thousands of pounds. The restoration fund has received lots of money from donors and the reconstruction is proceeding with full speed.

The Cutty Sark (a sailing ship) was a wonderful place to take children if you are visiting Greenwich. It is situated next to the entrance to the foot tunnel to the Isle of Dogs.

The Cutty Sark is the last great tea clipper (a very fast sailing ship which brought tea to England from the Far East) and inside the bowels of the ship there are displays which chronicle the building of the ship, what life was like on board along with a collection of ‘Long John Silver‘ figureheads. There is also an education service for children. There is limited access to physically impaired visitors and audio guides are available.

It is temporarily not available for visits because it is the subject of a massive restoration project following  the huge fire in 2007. We hope to keep you posted on progress on the restoration.

Nearest Train station: Cutty Sark (Docklands Light Railway)
Underground pay & display car park owned by London Borough of Greenwich are alongside.
Coach parking on Blackheath at the top of Greenwich Park (20 min. walk!).
