Mapledurham House & Watermill

Historic home of the Blount family for over 500 years, Mapledurham House is a beautiful Elizabethan mansion open to the public at weekends and Bank Holidays from Easter until the end of September. The house contains a fine collection of paintings and portraits, original ceilings and great oak staircases.

The beautiful private family chapel, an addition in the 1790s, is decorated in Strawberry Hill Gothick and is a delight. Visitors may arrive by boat from nearby Caversham and no visit is complete without a delicious cream tea! 4 miles northwest of Reading, Mapledurham is accessible by road or by river.

The House and Watermill are open on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from Easter Saturday until the end of Septermber and for previously arranged party visits midweek.

We also open the house for midweek party visits for groups of 40 or more. Many of our guests choose to arrive by boat from nearby Caversham- something we organise for them. Most guests leave Caversham at 2p.m. and arrive here at 2:45p.m. They then have a guided tour of the House and Watermill and many choose to end their afternoon with a cream tea or an afternoon tea. The scones that form part of our cream tea are made from flour actually milled in the Watermill!
