EmbankmentThe RAF MemorialEmbankment This memorial stands on the embankment of the River Thames by the Ministry of Defence building and overlooking The London Eye. The memorial consists of a Portland stone plinth surmounted by a golden eagle - the symbol of the RAF.
Left: The RAF Memorial - photo by S Worsfold The memorial was originally dedicated to the members of the RAF who died in the First World War and was unveiled in 1923. At the end of WWII the inscriptions on the plinth were augmented to include the dead RAF men and women who gave thier lives during the Second World War. Nearest Tube Station: Westminster
