The South Bank Arts Complex

South Bank Centre ,
SE1
The South Bank possesses one of the most exciting, innovative arts centres in the world. The complex is a Mecca for anyone who enjoys the arts, no matter what medium it represents.
The National Film Theatre is a fascinating aspect of the South Bank. The film theatre is a haven of delight for film buffs as it covers movies from every country, every era and every genre. Its comprehensive listings include seasons sporting anything from gangster flicks to serious filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese to foreign movies foraged out of countries such as Senegal, Poland, Brazil - anywhere you like. There is nothing that the National Film Theatre does not have.
The Royal Festival Hall is also a major entertainment building in the heart of the complex - see separate entry.
The Royal National Theatre doesn't so much announce itself politely, as jump on top of you in the most overbearing and headstrong fashion. It was designed by Dennis Lasdun in the 1960ies brutalist style - and people either love it or hate it. This huge complex, in keeping with the rest of the South Bank Arts Centre, does not shirk on any aspect of classic or modern theatre. Be it Tennessee Williams, William Shakespeare, or Alan Ayckbourn, the National Theatre puts on generally top class productions with world famous actors.
The Hayward Gallery, in keeping with all the other complexes on the South Bank, offers a large and diverse body of work. The exhibitions here come from every era, culture and medium.
Nearest Tube stations Waterloo or Embankment. Parking sometimes available in NCPs underneath the theatres but can be difficult to find spaces. For full detailks of current productions visit SBC Online
