Sunbury
Pretty Sunbury on Thames is located in Surrey, easily accessible by road, rail and river, and directly on the River Thames. It boasts several good riverside pubs, and it's an ideal place to visit on a sunny day for a walk or boat ride, or to view some of the excellent boats at nearby Shepperton Marina.
Sunbury village is home to the Sunbury Millennium Embroidery, a permanent commemoration which celebrates the ancient Sunbury and its riverside over the millennium. Originally conceived by David Brown it was later designed by John Stamp and worked on by over 140 local embroiderers.
As part of the Royal Visit to Sunbury in 2001 the Queen visited the Walled Garden to view the stunning Embroidery which was later displayed at the Palace of Westminster in 2002. It now has a permanent home in the Sunbury Embroidery Gallery situated in the Walled Garden. But no need for a royal invite- just turn up!
Sunbury's Walled Garden has an exquisite array of plants making it a lovely place to enjoy a slow stroll,
take in the smells of spring or get to one of the concerts in the summer months,with a wonderful
setting.There are always exhibitions at the Embroidery and don't forget the tea and homemade cake from the Sunbury Embroidery Gallery shop.
There's an annual Sunbury Amateur Regatta every August -a great day out for all the family with entertainment and stalls.
