Thames Towns

Walton-on-Thames

Walton On Thames has its place in history from its Anglo Saxon origin, when it was known as Farm of the People. It is located 15 miles west of London, and is the birthplace of British actress Julie Andrews and coin designer Ian Rank Broadley.

Nearby, Weybridge (less than 2.5Km from Walton) has been in the national press recently thanks to Lewis Hamilton's support of Mercedez Benz World, a newly launched driving academy aimed at children aged 12 to 16.

Other places of interest include Oatlands Palace built by Henry VIII in 1538, which is a mile from the town, and  New Zealand Avenue, famous for hospitalising troops from New Zealand in the first world war (hence the nearby Wellington Pub, formally known as the Kiwi).

Activities on the Thames include several water sports, such as Rowing, Canoeing, Sailing and Punting with the Elmbridge Leisure centre nearby, as well as other activities at The Walton Athletics Club. There are 2 non-league football clubs in the area, namely Walton & Hersham FC and Walton Casuals FC. You can also enjoy day and evening trips on the River Thames with JGF Passenger Boats.

Once you venture out of the town centre, why not enjoy the Thames path with some wonderful views of the riverside and wildlife. There is also the Ashley Park a stone's throw away.

Walton is also known for filming several Monty Python sketches, as well as having the Nettleford studios famous for filming the TV series "The Adventures of Robin Hood."

If you are looking for somewhere to eat or to have a drink why not visit the Anglers Pub or the Old Manor Inn. Some of the best restaurants include the Italian Zio's, The Giraffe and Pizza Express as well as Carluccios Cafe.
