Founded in 1870, Thames Sailing Club is the oldest river sailing club in Great Britain. It still houses one of the first fleets of sailing dinghies to sail in this country- the Thames ‘A’ Raters which were designed specifically for the light weather conditions on the river.

The club house is situated on the Surrey(South) bank between Kingston and Hampton Court Bridges. Being above Teddington Lock the river is fresh water and essentially non-tidal. We have a large car-park so access is easy.

New members, especially sailing and family members are welcome. Sailing normally starts at Easter and ends at the beginning of November. The social life at the club however goes on throughout the year. The catering organised by a catering committee has a high reputation.

Members are expected to undertake a duty once or twice a year. We are a self-help club and members are encouraged to help at work parties .

There is a full RYA Certificated training course for youngsters. We have a nucleus of qualified and experienced instructors.

We sail several classes of boats besides the Thames ‘A’ Rater, two handed and single handed. All dinghy classes are welcome. Racing is organised on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Storage and some mooring is available.
