Bourne End - a Gentle Walk by the river

by Jeannette Briggs

This delightful riverside town sits on the Thames between Marlow and Cookham on the Berkshire/Buckinghamshire borders.

The river here is gentle with walks along the towpath.  If you fancy something more challenging, the Thames Path long distance walkway crosses the Thames to the southern bank at this point.

People throng the riverside path enjoying the views and exercising their dogs.  Swans flock to be fed and sailing dinghies line up on the shore.

The town of Bourne End has several nice restaurants and coffee stops, one of which is located right on the riverfront. On the opposite side of the town and reached by the Thames Path walkway over the footbridge is a very popular pub, frequented by walkers with their dogs. Bourne End is served by the little railway from Marlow to Maidenhead.  Parking is OK but it can get a bit busy on a sunny Saturday!!!
